I’m a night person. Always have been. I can easily stay up until 1 or 2 am doing
work, cleaning, laundry and Netflix movie marathons.
What was happening, though, is that I would be dragging in the morning until around 9am. Finally around 9am I would wake up to my kids crawling out of their rooms getting ready for the day.
I would jump out of bed and take the dog out and make breakfast by 9:30 (sadly sometimes even 10am!) It just felt like the day was so short, how would we ever complete all of our tasks?
My husband is so sweet, he would always stay up with me and find work to do until I was ready for bed. With him in master’s school, there’s always studying to do and papers to write.
He’s a morning person. He’s up at 6:30 or earlier everyday (after getting to bed after 1am!) and has time to read and pray and have breakfast and not be rushed getting ready for work.
That was insanity to me. Why not get up a 1/2 hour later and get ready quicker? He doesn’t have makeup to do and he doesn’t spend massive amounts of time doing his hair. Why not get some extra sleep?
Truthfully, I felt like a slacker. Here was my husband working, advancing, accomplishing things on 5 hours of sleep. And I was dragging. While it’s true that different people have different sleep needs, I was probably making excuses for myself. So I decided to change it.
Tomorrow I’ll tell you what I did about it and how it’s working to redeem our time.
